Publish Date : 03-Oct-2011
Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG, the largest local public limited construction company in Oman, has been awarded a contract to the build a water transmission pipeline to serve the Al Amerat area of Muscat Governorate. The Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) is overseeing the implementation of the RO 13.964 million Wadi Adai-Al Amerat project, which is part of a wider scheme to strengthen potable water supply to all areas of the capital city.
The projecincludes construction of an 11-kilometre-long 56 inch (1,400mm diameter) steel pipeline that will cater to the present and future potable water demands of the Al Amerat area. Once completed, this pipeline will replace an existing 600mm water mains that was wrecked by floodwaters during the storm events of recent years.
Also as part of its contract, Galfar will install pumping systems and other facilities. The company will also undertake mechanical, electrical, civil and instrumentation works, as well as tie in the new line with the existing network within the Wadi Adai Reservoir and the pump station compound. A SCADA system covering the entire scheme will be constructed as well. The Wadi Adai–Al Amerat water transmission project is the latest in a series of contracts undertaken by Galfar on behalf of PAEW.
The company has also recently executed contracts for ground potable water reservoirs in Barka, a water supply scheme in Samayil, and a water distribution network at Al Suwaiq, among a host of other prestigious projects. It is also one of several firms that have sought to participate in the prequalification process for the Gubrah Independent Water Project (IWP).
Galfar\'s Vice-President for Business Development, Jai K Salvi, said that the company continues to maintain its dominant position as a leader in the construction industry as reflected in its continuing success in winning a number of prestigious contracts despite the entry of several international construction companies.
