SAUDI ARABIA : Foreign firm awarded contract for expansion of Abha airport

The General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) has signed a contract with an international consultancy to draw up the designs for the expansion of Abha regional airport.
According to the authority, a restricted tender process was opted for awarding the project. The designing work will be concluded within 18 months, followed by which the contract for the construction of the airport would be offered for public bidding.
Faisal bin Hamad Al-Sughair, President of GACA stated that the expansion plan of Abha airport forms part of the strategy to upgrade and redevelop the regional airports. Abha regional airport\'s new design would consist of the development of 10 boarding bridges which will take the passengers from the airplane to the airport. He further stated that 15 regional airports would be either expanded or redeveloped.
