Singapore : Takenaka Corp SECURES S$985 Million CONTRACT from CAG

Publish Date : 28-Dec-2013

Changi Airport Group (CAG) has declared a S$985 million contract to Takenaka Corp for the construction of Changi Airport's Terminal 4 (T4). CAG said the award came after a tender that had five companies submitting proposals.

"Takenaka has a strong track record in the construction of several airports in Japan, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, including Changi Airport's Terminal 1. It was also involved in the upgrading of Changi Airport's Terminal 2 (2006) and more recently, the upgrading of Terminal 1 (2012)," it said.

Takenaka will work closely with the group and the appointed design consortium to refine the design of T4 before construction. "Among other things, the construction works will involve the development of a new passenger terminal building, with a gross floor area of 195,000 sq metres and planned capacity of 16 million passenger movements per annum, a multi-storey car park and an open-air car park in front of the terminal building to cater to up to 1,500 car park spaces," it said.

CAG's Chief Executive Officer, Lee Seow Hiang, said there were competitive bids from local and international companies with huge experience in the construction of major infrastructure projects. "The past few months have seen an intensive process for the CAG team, as it went through several rounds of evaluation. Takenaka delivered the best overall proposal, which included an innovative construction methodology," he said.

Takenaka Corp (Singapore) General Manager, Shoichiro Shibuta, said the company was committed to deliver T4 on time and with optimum safety. The company will begin construction works in the first quarter of 2014 and T4 will be concluded in 2017.
