United Kingdom : HIGHWAYS AGENCY - EM HIGHWAY SERVICES inks L600M deal

The Highways Agency has announced that Mouchel-owned EM Highway Services has inked its Area 9 Asset Support Contract covering road upgrades in the West Midlands.
EM beat four competitors to the five-year maintenance and upkeep deal spanning 450 miles of major roads around Birmingham, Coventry and Stoke-on-Trent.
The other rivals included Carillion, Balfour Beatty/Mott McDonald JV, Atkins/Skanska JV and Amey.
EM will begin work in July and operate the region until July 2019 with potential extensions until 2022.
With annual expenditure expected to reach Å160m a year, the deal is valued at around Å600m over the term.
EM Managing Director, Dave Wright, said: 'I am delighted that EM has been awarded the Area 9 Asset Support Contract – the second ASC for the company.'
Divisional Director for the Agency's Midlands region, Harbot, added : 'By specifying the outcomes required for a safe and well maintained road network, and giving suppliers greater freedom to innovate to achieve those outcomes, ASCs incentivise our supply chain to deliver results for road users, and will achieve significant cost savings too.'
