United Kingdom : KEOHANE's SEAFOODS bags €1.3m/year contract from TESCO UK
Publish Date : 04-Jan-2014
Bantry-based Keohane's Seafoods has won a contract from Tesco UK which is estimated to be worth around €1.3m/year.
The company deals in production of a gourmet range of premium Irish fish and shellfish dishes. As per this deal, the firm will be responsible to supply Tesco UK with two frozen products, Cod with Chilli Ginger & Lime and Haddock with Lemon & Cracked Black Pepper Butter.
The contract would result in generation of four new jobs and will also help to support 40 more at the company's processing facility located in Co. Cork.
Colman Keohane, managing director of the family-run business, said, "We are delighted at the opportunity Tesco has given us to expand our reach into the UK."
"Our products are ideal for time conscious consumers as they can be cooked from frozen in the microwave in just nine minutes. The products are steam cooked in their natural juices for a guaranteed healthy dinner. We also use an innovative skin-film packing method, the first of its kind in Europe. Skin-film is a technique which works by taking all of the oxygen out of the product thus providing an extra four days shelf life and an improved appearance."
Conor Lynch, Tesco Wilton, said, "This is an extremely positive story of Tesco working with a quality local Irish producer to create a new export pipeline of growth. Keohane's Seafoods offers excellent 'tide-to-table' traceable gourmet seafood products."
