United Kingdom : BALFOUR BEATTY gets 154 million pounds contract to transform olympic stadium

Publish Date : 07-Jan-2014

On Monday, infrastructure group Balfour Beatty Plc. announced receiving a 154 million pounds contract to execute the full transformation works to the London 2012 Olympic Stadium for its operator, E20 Stadium LLP, which is a joint venture between the London Legacy Development Corporation and Newham Council.

The new contract features the 41 million pounds Stadium roof contract which was awarded to Balfour Beatty in the summer.

As per the deal, Balfour Beatty will be responsible to lead stadium's transformation into an all-round multi-use venue, providing a lasting sporting, cultural and commercial legacy in East London.

During the Rugby World Cup 2015, the new venue will host five matches and from 2016 will serve as the permanent home of West Ham United Football Club and will even be used as the new national competition Stadium for athletics in the UK and host international athletics events and other sporting, cultural and community events.

During peak construction of the project it will generate employment for around 400 people.

To ensure the employment of local people where possible, Balfour Beatty will work with WorkPlace, Newham Council's employment service.

Works is scheduled to begin on site early in 2014 and should be completed in the spring of 2016.
