Belgium,Iran Islamic Republic of,United States : EU & IRAN reach an agreement to implement the nuclear deal

Publish Date : 13-Jan-2014

Diplomats from Iran and the European Union were able to reach an agreement on implementing the Iran nuclear accord.

The according is still in review by 6 world power, though the start date for the accord would be coming in soon.

Michael Mann, a spokesman for the EU, said "this is now under validation at political level in capitals."

The announcement was made after the talks in Geneva between the EU and the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister. Lead US negotiator, Under Secretary of State accompanied by her advisor also held bilateral meetings in Geneva with the Iranian Deputy's team.

A final decision is to be made and a result will be announced within 2 days.

The progress in Geneva came as Iran sanctions legislation had attracted 59 Senate co-sponsors, not yet the 67 needed to override a presidential veto.

The bill has GOP support, attracting 2 Democrats and 25 Republicans as co-sponsors since it was first introduced.

Only 16 of the Senate's 55 Democrats have signed on as co-sponsors to the bill, despite the pressures from the pro-Israel lobby group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. 43 of the Senate's 45 Republicans have signed on.

According to the White House, the bill would harm negotiations with Iran and thinks that it should not be passed.

White House spokesman, Jay Carney said "I think that we remain hopeful that Congress will not pass such a sanctions bill because of the negative effect that would have on the ongoing negotiations and the potential to resolve this peacefully. But I'm not going to make legislative predictions."
