Publish Date : 21-Jan-2014

Apart from finances that will be approved by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), the municipal corporation is likely to receive Rs 403 crore from the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

The MC sent acceptance of the house to JNNURM so that formalities could be concluded and inflow of finances could begin as soon as possible. The new ventures that got acceptance will get finances under JNNURM in which 50% of the allowance will be offered by the Central government, 20% by the state government and the remaining 30% by the LMC.

Isha Kalia, additional commissioner said, "The LMC will invest 30% of the money for the project instead of taking the entire amount as loan and repaying it HUDCO. The approval of the house was a must as proposal for the projects will be discussed in the meeting that will be held on January 21."

Some of the ventures that were accepted consists of update of old GT Road from Sherpur Chowk to Jalandhar Bypass, worth Rs 85.20 crore, update of Chandigarh road from Samrala Chowk to MC limits, worth Rs 109.31 crore, remodelling of Ferozepur Road from Jagraon bridge to Sidhwan Canal alongwith developement of three underpasses at Bhai Wala Chowk, Bharat Nagar chowk and Malhar road.

The venture is worth Rs 209.37 crore. It also involves bus stops, traffic signage, lane markings and foot overbridges, detailed venture report of Ludhiana solid waste management to decline tipping fee being paid to the organization hired, indoor stadium at Pakhowal road got sanction for Rs 41.25 crore to be spent on lifts, CCTV cameras, audio video systems and security items. Water, sewerage and filling of vacant posts in the LMC were the other problems talked about.
