Publish Date : 24-Jun-2014
A deal to build a 20-megawatt solar-power array in Georgia is signed by Former Gov. Phil Bredesen’s Nashville-based Silicon Ranch Corp.
Matt Kisber, president of Silicon Ranch and former Tennessee commissioner of economic and community development said that the new facility, which will be located in Jeff Davis County near Hazlehurst, Ga., will be one of the largest solar power-generating sites in the state.
The new array, to be constructed on a 135-acre site, will have above 87,000 solar modules and will generate above 43,000 megawatt-hours of solar power yearly, he said. It will offer enough power to serve about 3,000 households.
Purchaser of the site's generated power will be Green Power EMC, the renewable-energy supplier for the 38 regional electricity providers in southeast Georgia.
Silicon Ranch said that Construction on the array will begin later this year, and the site is expected to be in operation by the end of 2015.
Silicon Ranch Corp. was established by Bredesen, who is the company’s chairman; Kisber; and Reagan Farr, a former state revenue commissioner, who is vice chairman and chief operating officer.
Kisber said that the company is one of the Top 15 solar-power owner-operators in the nation. It possesses and runs Georgia’s biggest solar farm, near Athens. It functions a number of solar generating facilities in Tennessee, counting one at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, and the Pulaski Energy Park in Giles County.
