Belgium : European Agency for Large-Scale IT Systems Selects Consortium of Atos, Accenture and HP to Maintain Schengen Information System

Publish Date : 30-Jun-2014

The European Agency for Large-Scale IT Systems (eu-LISA) has awarded a consortium of Atos, Accenture and HP a framework contract to maintain and enhance the second-generation Schengen Information System (SIS II). The contract is for three years with a possible one-year extension.

As consortium leader, ATOS will ensure the corrective and evolutionary maintenance of SIS II - from the requirements definition to the functional validation of the adapted software. ATOS developed and supported the operation of the SIS I system, deployed until 2013.

Accenture will help enhance and evolve the software architecture of SIS II to increase system performance and functionality as well as to facilitate additional future capabilities, as will be required by eu-LISA on behalf of the EU Member States. Accenture will also provide on-site user support, training and technical assistance services.

HP will provide server, storage and network infrastructure and deliver mission-critical support services. HP has worked with the European Commission on the eu-LISA Smart Border Package since 2005, deploying HP Converged Infrastructure and associated technology services to support the SIS II and Visa Information System platforms as well as the Biometric Matching System.

SIS II is the largest information system for public security in Europe, allowing for information exchanges between national border control, customs and police authorities, while ensuring the free movement of people into and within the EU happens in a safe environment.

Punit Sehgal, ATOS Vice President - Global Account Management European Institutions, said, "Atos is delighted to lead the consortium mandated for assisting eu-LISA in the stable and cost efficient operational management of SIS II, this essential instrument in implementing EU migration and border management policies. With its proven experience in maintaining similar large-scale IT platforms and its comprehensive Homeland Security Suite (HSS), Atos will bring its capacity to ensure the sustainable adaptive and forward-engineering of SIS II to meet future requirements."

"Accenture has in-depth experience working with border agencies around the world in helping them meet the challenges of managing the growing numbers of travelers and increased visa application complexity," said Mark Crego who leads Accenture's global Border and Identity Services business. "We are pleased to have been chosen for this project, our experience of working as part of a consortium on the EU-VIS system will enable valuable synergies and support delivery excellence for our client eu-LISA."
