Ruukki is to deliver a steel frame and envelope solution worth around EUR 9 million for a new logistics centre being built for Norway-based Varner Gruppen in Vanersborg, western Sweden. The new building will have a surface area of almost 50,000 square metres. The order for Ruukki's delivery was placed by NCC Construction Sverige AB, the lead contractor in the project.
Varner-Gruppen is a major player in the northern Europe clothing sector whose brands include Dressmann, BIKBOK, Carlings, Cubus, Volt and Wow. Ruukki is to design and deliver the steel frame, panels, load-bearing roof structures and hollow core slabs, plinths and windows, i.e. the frame, facades and roof for the centre. Work on manufacturing the structures will begin in late summer and Ruukki's deliveries will be completed in April 2015. Ruukki is also responsible for the installation and intumescent coating of the structures. The single-storey building will open in winter 2016.
"Ruukki has a sound track record in total building deliveries. Quality total delivery and keeping to schedule are important to us, as is experience of working on high buildings. NCC have earlier successfully worked together on the mail terminal project in Hallsberg, Sweden, for example," states Tomasz Drapella, construct manager at NCC Construction Sverige AB.
"This is the largest of a number of significant building contracts we have recently been awarded in Sweden. Ruukki's delivery, which includes structures, together with design and installation, is a competitive entirety. We are pleased to be able to become involved in working with the lead contractor also at the development stage of the project," says Petri Nieminen, SVP, Ruukki Building Systems, Nordic and CEE.
The building components for Ruukki's delivery will be manufactured at Ruukki's plants in Oborniki (Poland) and in Ylivieska, Peraseinajoki and Alajarvi (Finland).
