Windstream, a leading provider of advanced network communications, announced today that it has been awarded a contract valued at $3 million by the Defense Information System Agency (DISA) to provide diverse fiber services to Fort Campbell and Dover Air Force Base.
DISA's current fiber network will be expanded into Fort Campbell, home to the only Air Assault Division in the world and located between Hopkinsville, Ky., and Clarksville, Tenn., creating additional route diversity and redundancy. Dover Air Force Base, located just outside of Dover, Del., will benefit from the same expansion efforts.
Augmenting the current network design will provide a faster network to both military bases. Windstream will install two half-10Gbps waves for fully diverse fiber paths into the facilities, tying those paths together to connect back to Windstream's national fiber network. The custom-designed solution will allow the thousands of employees at both Fort Campbell and Dover AFB to consistently connect to a secure, reliable network, increasing productivity and efficiency.
"By expanding the fiber at each of these locations, day-to-day business will flow even more efficiently," said Mike Magliato, Windstream's vice president and general manager of government solutions. "Military facilities need to maintain network connectivity, with secure and uncompromised connections. I'm proud that Windstream can provide the solid, reliable solutions that are so vital to the success of government operations."
Fort Campbell is home to the 101st Airborne Division and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, which played integral roles in Operation Overlord in World War II and in the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound, respectively. Dover Air Force Base is home to the Air Mobility Command Museum.
"Windstream is honored to continue providing technology solutions to our government and to our heroes in the military," said Matt Preschern, Windstream's senior vice president and enterprise chief marketing officer. "When government operations are at stake, our ‘smart solutions, personalized service' brand promise and our role as trusted advisor take on even greater significance, as we understand how technology can be critical to the success of government initiatives and missions."
Since 2005, Windstream and its subsidiaries have been serving governmental entities, such as the Department of Defense and DISA; Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); Department of Treasury; Department of Veterans Affairs; U.S. Army, Air Force and Navy; U.S. Courts and the Department of Homeland Security. In 2010, Windstream announced the activation of the 500th high capacity circuit delivered to the United States Department of Defense (DoD). Circuit speeds for the DoD range from DS-3 to 10 Gbps.
