Sri Lanka : SRI LANKA invests Rs.300 million to construct fisheries harbours and anchorages

The Sri Lankan Government has announced the provision of Rs. 3,000 million in the 2014 Budget to establish and construct fisheries harbours and anchorages island wide.
Previously, the development work on the Fisheries Harbour in Kalametiya was disturbed because of various reasons and the Kaikawala anchorage started under the backing of Minister Dr.Rajitha Senarathna.
After receiving the report of the feasibility study, the building work on the anchorage at Kaikawala started. For the construction of the Kaikawala anchorage, about Rs.200 million has been provided as well as the Fisheries Harbour in Kalametiya has been received Rs.9 million.
Dr.Rajitha Senarathna, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, commented that the anchorages and the harbours are unable to be constructed in the way, the buildings are being constructed.
He stated “We are also making arrangements to fulfill all needs and wants in all fisheries harbours and anchor lodges and equip them with all modern facilities. We hope to develop all fisheries harbours, anchor lodges and fish landing centres island wide to uplift the fisheries industry and measures are in place to complete the construction of all fisheries harbours by 2015.”
