Publish Date : 25-Jul-2014
The most-awaited contract has been signed by the government of Peru Odebrecht, with Brazilian construction giant, and Enagas, Spanish firm. The contract is aiming at constructing and operating the Southern Peruvian Gas Pipeline (GSP). Peruvian President Ollanta Humala commented “Today's contract signing marks a historic milestone for Peru and will help ensure national energy security. This project will also help reduce the inequality gap in the country.”
Peru's Mines and Energy Minister Eleodoro Mayorga also claimed that the natural gas produces energy required to provide electricity to inhabitants of southern Peru. The Energy and Mines Ministry (MEM) awarded concession for the project entitled 'Improvement of the Country`s Energy Security and Development of the South Peruvian Pipeline'.
At the same time, the Economy and Finance Ministry (MEF) assured the State’s security and guarantees for its development. Mayorga informed that the GSP project construction will commence in the coming months and the produced gas will first reach Cusco region and will later be distributed across the coast of the country.
