Kontron and Matrox Video today announced that they have integrated the Matrox X.mio3 LP SDI card with the Kontron Symkloud Series of cloud platforms. OEMs and ISVs serving broadcasters, telcos, cable operators and content delivery networks will have access to fully integrated, high-performance computing platforms that can ingest up to 72 1080p60 or 18 4K live feeds from a single 2U Symkloud platform, only 21 inches deep.
The Symkloud MS2910 supports up to nine Matrox SDI cards, each with eight 3G-SDI channels for ingest and encoding of SD, HD, 3G and UltraHD up to 60fps. The flexibility of the Symkloud design supports integrated 10G switching with redundancy options, and a mix and match of Intel® processors, namely the Intel Core™ i7 processor series and the Intel E3-1200 processor series. “Scalability and cost reductions are key for the media broadcast and cable market,” said Benoit Robert, Strategy and Business Development, Communications Business Unit, Kontron. “Our collaboration with Matrox is yet another demonstration of the tremendous flexibility of COTS hardware to reduce costs and increase the monetization of cloud-based HD and 4K video workloads.”
Matrox X.mio3 LP is the ideal SDI card for OEMs who need to create advanced yet compact channel-in-a-box systems, video servers, broadcast graphics systems, encoders, transcoders, multiviewers, switchers and other digital media equipment. Each low-profile, half-length PCIe card offers up to eight reconfigurable I/Os, from SD to 4K. Multi-channel hardware processing accelerates compute-intensive operations including motion-adaptive de-interlacing, up/down/cross scaling and mixing/compositing for all resolutions. Built-in frame synchronizers generate clean SDI signals for any environment.
Comprehensive development tools in the Matrox DSX SDKs for Windows® or Linux® include versatile file reading/writing, memory management, streaming synchronization, and a large selection of software codecs and effects. A prototyping tool provides a graphical representation of all hardware components so developers can simulate and test their use cases within minutes, before writing a single line of code. From a single development effort, broadcast equipment manufacturers can create a variety of products at a full range of price/performance levels.
The Matrox SDI card is integrated with a new Symkloud sub-system node that features the 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor and support for half-length PCIe cards for added storage, security or other hardware accelerated applications. "Our collaboration with Kontron gives OEMs and ISVs serving the broadcast market a one-stop-shop for integrated, fully validated, reliable hardware platforms,” said Alberto Cieri, senior director of sales and marketing, Matrox. "They can focus on developing their unique applications with complete peace of mind.”
