Dell today announced that Dublin has been selected as the location for a new Commerce Services R&D Centre. The team of highly skilled software developers and engineers that will be located at the Centre will play a pivotal role in the evolution of Dell’s online offerings, making it easier for customers and partners to do business with Dell online. The R&D work done at the Centre will lead to increased functionality for Dell.com improving the customer experience for the millions of people and businesses Dell engages with daily. The Dublin based R&D team will, working with colleagues in other Centres, deliver new services and functionality that will be added to Dell’s online platform.

The announcement was welcomed in Dublin today by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, who visited the Dell facility for the announcement. Operating in over 100 countries and 34 languages, Dell.com is one of the largest online retailers in the world.Dell opened www.dell.com in 1996 and recorded $1 million in online sales by 1997. With billions of visits to Dell.com continuing every year, providing a world-class online experience is critical to the company’s operations. The company launched a recruitment drive today for more than 50 highly skilled software developers, software engineers, technical programme managers and test engineers to help roll out the first phase of the new R&D centre.

In Dublin to oversee the launch, Dell’s Chief Information Officer, Paul Walsh said: “As an ecommerce pioneer and one of the world’s largest online retailers, Dell is uniquely positioned to understand the quickly evolving demands of this space and the customers it serves. What we are increasingly trying to do is to deepen the impact of these investments, so that we attract higher value activities which bring more benefits to their local area.
