As part of its efforts to highlight its strategic partnership with the Alibaba Group, the Chinese e-commerce portal, and to assist its members and members of the UAE Chambers of Commerce to benefit from this valuable online service, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized an awareness-raising seminar at its Jebel Ali branch recently. This partnership which opens doors of opportunities for UAE companies to expand their e-commerce activities was strengthened through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding earlier this year between Dubai, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah Chambers to grant portal access and exclusive benefits to their members.
Starting with Dubai, these sessions will be held in Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, and Fujairah explaining member companies about the benefits available to them as Verified and Trusted members with access to the knowledge centre and e-commerce MENA region club as well as training and awareness sessions on e-commerce organised by Dubai Chamber and Alibaba.com Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, stressed on the importance of this strategic partnership in promoting the concept of e-commerce as the UAE occupies first position in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
He further stressed that the portal has various tiers of membership including Verified Membership, which has reached 12,000 and Trusted Membership to 100. Dubai Chamber aims to increase its Verified Members to 15,000 and Trusted Members to 500 by the end of 2014. Dr. Rettab informed that the Trusted members get an accredited digital certificate which confirms to customers, suppliers and vendors that the company has established a reputable name in the market. Uploaded on the company’s e-profile, this certificate enhances the company’s reputation, increases its exposure and visibility to quality buyers, which in turn will boost its sales growth and reduce transaction costs.
Alibaba.com is a leading global e-commerce platform used by 40 million users around the world. Dubai Chamber has last year established a partnership with Alibaba.com to launch a MENA portal www.dubaichamber.com/alibaba to offer businesses in the MENA region a unique opportunity to create new market prospects and to start connecting and selling their products and services to businesses worldwide. Dubai Chamber, in cooperation with Alibaba Group, will organise its 2nd e-commerce conference titled “Unleashing New Business Opportunities Globally” on November 26. The highlight of the conference is the hosting of bilateral meetings between Dubai and Chinese traders in the areas of hardware, consumer electronics and construction materials.
