India : APM TERMINALS ISLAND SERVICES SOUTH ASIA launches improved RFID application

Publish Date : 02-Dec-2014

APM Terminals Inland Services South Asia has announced the launch of an improved Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) application loaded onto computer tablets offering access to real-time container location data, significantly improving operational efficiency. On 5 November the application was inaugurated by Reach Stacker Operators at APM Terminals Inland Services’ Container Freight Station in Mumbai.

Reach Stacker Operators, developed as an enhancement of the existing RFID technology application, will now be able to access real- time data on the status, location and next move of the containers with a single touch through computer tablets installed in the cabin. The new technological upgrade does away with the involvement of RFID Marshalls inside the yard, and will also help in reducing man/machine interaction and workplace risk, in adherence to the APM Terminals’ embrace of Safety Culture. APM Terminals India Pvt Ltd Managing Director and CFO, Mr. R. K. Sreedhar, said, “We are fully committed to constantly leveraging technology in an effort to simplify the supply chain, and increase customer satisfaction. The introduction of this new platform will allow higher cargo turn-around times, improved safety performance and reduced fuel consumption.”

APM Terminals India, with responsibilities for the APM Terminals Global Terminal network’s Inland Services in India, carry out operations in Chennai, Cochin, Dadri and Pipavav, and in Nhava Sheva, serving the Mumbai area.
