Singapore : Peter Li selected as GM for China by Abacus International

Abacus International, Asia Pacific region’s travel solutions provider, declared the selection of online travel veteran Peter Li to a new role as General Manager for the company’s expanding China operations. Li will directly report to Brett Henry, Vice President – Commercial and will build on the collaborative plan that has established Abacus as China’s complementary foreign Global Distribution System (GDS) used by a fast rising network of international travel agents.

Li brings with him more than 17 years of experience, most lately supervising business development at TripAdvisor where he was mainly instrumental in educating China’s hoteliers on the online opportunity, connecting them with wider domestic and overseas audiences. Li in addition earlier aimed the China strategy for TravelClick, Travelzoo and Accor, with the benefit of experience working for China International Travel Service and with Northwest Airlines. Chairman for Abacus China Jack Zhai said, “We are delighted to have Peter on the team to help us further scale Abacus’ business on the mainland. Peter brings to the business a wealth of market knowledge and from many different perspectives, giving us the insight to meet more of our industry’s technological needs.”

Li stated, “This is certainly an exciting period for Abacus, especially with the latest licensing grant from the Civil Aviation Administration of China to operate as a foreign GDS in the country”.“China’s travel sector is undergoing so many positive changes. I’m really thrilled to be joining the regional technology leader as we look at new ways to contribute to this market’s further integration and development.” Li, who possesses a Master’s Degree in Economics, will supervise Abacus’ operations across six provincial offices. He will in addition be working closely with his counterparts around the region and the Abacus executive team in Singapore.
