On Wednesday, Finnish data networking and telecom equipment company Nokia Networks announced that it has upgraded Tata Teleservices' 3G network to HSPA+ (High-Speed Packet Access) technology in Karnataka, Haryana & Punjab circles, offering the latter's customers with better data services with higher network coverage and capacity. Tata Teleservices provides GSM and CDMA services in 19 telecom circles, to include nine 3G circles in the country under the unified brand name Tata Docomo, and it has operations in more than 450,000 towns and villages across the country.

Neeraj Dindore, chief technology officer at Tata Docomo, said, “With its extensive knowledge about our infrastructure and expertise in executing similar deployments worldwide and more specifically in India, Nokia Networks was our natural choice for this project.” According to the deal, Nokia Networks has provided its Flexi Multiradio 10 base station with HSPA+ technology and Radio Network controllers along with Flexi Lite Base Stations to boost capacity and provide best coverage in densely crowded areas. Additionally, the contract includes Nokia Networks' NetAct network management system for effective monitoring and management of the telco's network.

Sandeep Girotra, head of India region at Nokia Networks, said, “We have committed our resources and technology to ensure a rapid expansion of Tata Docomo's network. This contract strengthens our long-standing partnership with the operator.” Nokia Networks will offer offer Network planning and optimization, project management services along with hardware and software support to Tata Docomo to ensure a smooth network roll out.
