Morocco-Mali-FAO signed a tripartite agreement in the agricultural field, on Sunday in Marrakech, on the sidelines of the High-Level International Conference on South-South Cooperation. Inked by agriculture and sea fisheries minister Aziz Akhannouch, Malian rural development minister Bokary Treta and director general of UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) José Graziano da Silva, the agreement seeks to share expertize and know-how related to agriculture and food security as well as techniques for productivity growth development. Under this agreement, the Moroccan agriculture and sea fisheries ministry will assist its Malian counterpart in identifying, elaborating and implementing plans for agricultural development, food security amelioration and the fight against poverty. Resulting Moroccan expenses will be paid by the Kingdom's trust fund put at FAO's disposal pursuant to an agreement concluded last April in Meknčs.

FAO will provide technical assistance and supervision, and will coordinate South-South cooperation activities. Morocco Willing To Share Agricultural Expertise With African Countries Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Aziz Akhannouch said, on Saturday in Marrakech, that Morocco is willing and committed to strengthening south-south cooperation with African countries in the field of agriculture.
The Moroccan official made the statement at the opening of an international conference on south-south cooperation held by the Agriculture Ministry in collaboration with the UN Food and Agriculture Organizatio (FAO). The Minister said Morocco is ready to put its expertise in the field of agriculture at the disposal of African states through innovative and efficient cooperation models in partnership with the FAO. Akhanouch recalled the latest visit by HM the King to Africa in which several agreements and partnerships were sealed in the field of agriculture.

The Minister lauded the vision of the FAO concerning family farming, which, he said, goes in line with Morocco’s plans to develop agricultural practices, notably those benefiting small farmers. The conference, held under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, brings together 14 African agriculture ministers and 29 African delegations along with international experts from the FAO and other international organisations. The event aims at examining the means to further boost south-south cooperation in the field of agriculture and to gear efforts towards achieving food security in the African continent.
