Ukraine : Ukraine and Canada are interested in deepening bilateral trade and economic relations

Ukraine and Canada are interested in deepening trade and economic partnerships. This was discussed at a meeting between Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Aivaras Abromavicius and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Roman Washchuk. Welcoming the Ambassador, Aivaras Abromavicius stressed that now in time when Ukraine must quickly implement reforms she especially needs assistance from partners.

"We are grateful to Canada for significant political support. Reforms that we are initiating will be very difficult and we hope that we will get support from our partners. We have to submit to the Parliament bills on deregulation, de-offshore-isation, transparent public procurement, privatization. All these bills are aimed at stabilizing the economy within the next 6 months in order to reach economic growth in 2016," he said.

Roman Washchuk stressed the readiness of Canada to strongly support Ukraine on her way of reform, find and use the opportunities in partnerships between Canada and Ukraine, develop and intensify relations. Among other issues discussed at the meeting was the work of the Intergovernmental Committee, technical and humanitarian assistance, increase of investment, cooperation in industry, agriculture, energy. Moreover, Ukraine and Canada will continue negotiations on a free trade zone in 2015.
