Publish Date : 22-Jan-2015

The Mysuru district government is set to establish three more paddy procurement centres in the district to allow farmers to sell their produce at minimum support price fixed by the government. The new centres would be established at Ratnapuri in Hunsur taluk and Hullahalli and Suttur in Nanjangud taluk. There are 8 procurement centres currently in the district. Besides the procurement centres in each of the 7 taluks, a separate procurement centre had been established in Bannuru as paddy is grown in plenty there.

A senior official of Food and Civil Supplies Department, said a further three procurement centres were established to allow farmers of respective regions to sell their crops for the minimum support price.

The State government has set an amount of Rs. 1,360 per quintal paddy as the MSP while an amount of Rs. 1,400 had been set for A grade paddy. The State government is yet to announce an incentive price as it did in 2014 for paddy. The government declared an incentive of Rs. 300 per quintal for A grade quality paddy and Rs. 280 per quintal for regular paddy, in the previous year. A majority of the paddy growers have been awaiting the government's announcement of the incentive before selling their paddy at the procurement centres.
