Pakistan : AJK to re-tender 48MW JAGRAN-II hydropower project
Publish Date : 05-Feb-2015
As the debate was started over the controversial award of the contract, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has announced that it will re-tender a Rs7 billion, 48MW Jagran-II hydroelectric project. The AJK Power Development Organisation (PDO)'s board of directors has allowed to re-tender the project sited at the run of Jagran Nullah in the northeastern Neelum valley.
The board granted unanimous approval and asked the PDO to implement the re-tendering process rapidly so that 68 million euro soft loan, committed by the Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD), could be obtained.
Minister in-charge Chaudhry Mohammad Yasin, who led the board, said : "The process should finish within six months in a transparent manner so that the contract is awarded to some reputed international firm for execution and completion of the vital project in time."
The contract of Jagran-II project was offered to China International Water and Electric Corporation (CWE) in June 2014 as it was a 'responsive lowest bidder.' Another Chinese company, Sinohydro, was the other competitor for the contract.
