Australia : NEW procurement guidelines announced to streamline application process

Publish Date : 06-Feb-2015

New procurement guidelines were announced aiming at streamlining the application process for Government construction contracts worth less than $1 million. NSW Procurement, a division of the Office of Finance and Services, administers the new single pre-qualification scheme and became mandatory for all Government Agencies from 1 January 2015.

According to Minister for Finance and Services, Dominic Perrottet, earlier contractors had to apply to up to 11 different schemes that were operating in isolation across the sector. He added, “The introduction of the new Prequalification Scheme for General Construction Works provides businesses with one single entry point to construction contracts and a more streamlined process.”

Minister for Small Business, John Barilaro said around 800 contractors had been automatically transitioned onto the new scheme. He added, “Prequalified contractors will gain exposure to available work right across government not just in one particular area, which is good news for small and regional businesses.”

"Agencies too will have greater choice as there will be a bigger pool of contractors available to them," he said. "Small businesses have the skills and experience to offer professional services to Government projects and these reforms enable the process to be more flexible for them."
