Kenya : KIAMBU introduces Greenhouse Programme to boost FARMING

As per the report, Kiambu government recently declared that it has formed a strategic plan to raise greenhouse farming and raise production, and it features distribution of greenhouses. Governor William Kabogo stated, the strategy aims to assure for food security and the county's high population has led to subdivision of land into small uneconomical units for small-scale farmers.
During the set up of the plan at Bishop Kariuki ADS Training centre in Kabete subcounty, Kabogo stated, "This is why the county is promoting a greenhouse revolution for intensive farming," and government, with the Department of Agriculture, has apportioned Sh21 million worth of 60 tunnel greenhouses.
The greenhouses will help train farmers and generate income so they can buy more. Agriculture executive Monica Waiganjo said the department has set aside an extra Sh10 million to buy 20 more greenhouses in the next phase, "I urge farmers to irrigate mitigate effects of unreliable rainfall and unpredictable weather patterns,", the county is supporting six farmers' groups with milk coolers and a group with a milk pasteuriser.
