Gambia : GPPA trains government officials on the Gambia public procurement system

Publish Date : 07-Feb-2015

The Gambia Public Procurement Authority (GPPA) has continued with the move to train government officials on the Gambia public procurement system. Recently a training exercise was conducted at Ocean Bay Hotel, which was the fifth training workshop delivered by GPPA in recent months, increasing the total number of government officers trained to over 250. The latest training session was attended by officials from government ministries, departments, agencies and parastatals, including GPA, CBG, SSHFC and GCAA. The workshop was delivered by GPPA specialist procurement officers supported by the EU-funded Short Term Technical Assistance consultants led by E John Blunt.

The implementation of the reform of the procurement regulatory framework is supported by the EU-funded consultants, enhancing the procurements management capacity, as well as improving the GPPA information systems for procurement in line with the Integrated Financial Management Information Systems (IFMIS).

GPPA has to regulate and monitor public procurement in The Gambia. It is responsible to monitor performance of procuring organizations in order to ascertain efficiency and compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and instructions, offering annually a quantitative and qualitative assessment of procurement activities in The Gambia to the Minister of Finance and could refer to the Auditor-General any violations.
