Despite the oil glut in the world market the road mobility was affected in some cities in the Punjab due to the scarcity of fuel. The PM of Pakistan suspends a few officials due to them being negligence in the conduct of their business. The mess in the management of the Energy Sector in the Country cannot be resolved by such adhoc exercises.
The Controversial Mega Hydel Project, Exploitation of Thar Coal Resources, Coal Based Power Stations at Karachi, Nuclear Power Stations at Karachi, Natural Gas Line from Iran, and LNG Project at Karachi. The situation eminently displays indecisiveness, lack of transparency and mishandling of issues by the decision makers. The Pakistan Academy of Engineering would like to strongly recommend creation of the Ministry of Energy at the earliest instead of dealing with the components of the energy sector by various ministries and departments.
The Energy Sector needs to be addressed as a whole entity creating a balance in the competing demands and eliminating the turf fiefdoms of various ministries. A responsive and unified command structure of the Ministry of Energy will remove the confusion prevailing at various levels of the Federal and Provincial Governments. The Ministry of Energy managed principally by technically well qualified persons on a position paper signed and issued by Dr. Ing Jameel Ahmad Khan President, PAE.
