Australia : MTM's procurement professionals take ownership of their careers through CPD programme
Publish Date : 11-Feb-2015
A continuing professional development (CPD) programme based on CIPS' Global Standard has Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM)' procurement experts to take ownership of their careers. Having become an employer of choice for procurement experts, aiding hiring and selection, the rail service vendor has identified its training requirements and developed focused-learning experiences customized for individuals.
A year after it won CIPS certification, the company is looking to build a strong reputation for HR development and enhance its procurement practices. It created a CPD plan for each individual, by assessing ts 25-strong procurement function's existing position descriptions and plotting them on a capability programme, which included skills training, informal learning, mentoring, CIPS knowledge and e-learning.
Staff morale was enhanced by benchmarking against the Global Standard and launching the CPD programme. Commercial project manager, Jason Westwood, said : "Working with CIPS on the application of Global Standards provides a tremendous opportunity for individual roles and responsibilities to be standard across the profession."
