Nigeria : FG to source 1 million meters locally
Publish Date : 11-Feb-2015
The Federal Government has announced that the 1 million meters it planned to supply to Nigerians as part of the government's efforts to fill the wide metering void in the power industry would be purchased from the local makers of power meters. A state official had earlier said President Goodluck Jonathan had sanctioned funds to purchase 1 million power meters, which would be given to the people of Nigerian to cushion the effects of insufficient metering in the power industry.
Following a recent inspection visit to Momas Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company Limited in Ogun State, the state official has now said the government would source all the 1 million meters locally.
He said the plan was part of the government's deliberate efforts to promote the local production of meters in the country. He added that the power industry has been transformed and privatized, but still the government has a key role to play to ensure that Nigerians received what they desired.
