Outsourcing major Capita is among three leading firms to win a place on the Ł5bn Lead Provider Framework for Commissioning Support Services. Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will have to re-procure many of their support services by April next year in order to meet EU procurement law, which NHS England expects will mean from Ł3bn and Ł5bn of services will be purchased through the framework.

The other two private sector groups who've been awarded a place are business services firm Mouchel and US healthcare technology company Optum. The deal will Capita offering a vast range of support services, like back office finance and HR, GP IT services, contracting, engagement and business intelligence.

It will also offer services for commissioners to support the purchase of medicines, the execution of new national guidance and "analysis of data to identify efficiencies in medicine use". CEO of Capita, Andy Parker, said : "The breadth and scale of services that will be procured through the new framework will transform service commissioning for the NHS and other healthcare providers."
