Publish Date : 12-Feb-2015

Head of the Bulgarian parliamentary energy committee, Delyan Dobrev, has presented a forthcoming tendering process for two Black Sea exploration blocks to senior officials of Norwegian oil and gas giant Statoil. Dobrev held a meeting with Senior Vice President for Natural Gas in Statoil, Rune Bjornson, and Tony Dore, Senior Advisor to Exploration Management at the company, on Tuesday.

According to the press office of ruling center-right party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), the meeting took place during the International Petroleum (IP) Week in London, where Dobrev and Deputy Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov will present the prospects for exploration programs at the two Black Sea blocks.

Dobrev said the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy was to publish the announcement to initiate the tendering process for a license to prospect and explore oil and gas in the Silistar and Teres blocks in the Black Sea in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJ) in 2 weeks' time. He assured the Statoil officials that the tendering process would be open. He added that the license would be offered for a period of 5 years.

According to Stankov, the deadline could be postponed twice by two year periods. The officials of Statoil said they were monitoring the developments in the region and the exploration programs in the Bulgarian Han Asparuh block and the Romanian Black Sea area.
