Philippines : ERC cleared the transmission line construction plan of ABOITIZ POWER

Publish Date : 14-Feb-2015

Therma Visayas has secured approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on its proposal to set up a transmission line to bring connection between its Cebu Province-based coal-fueled power generation station and the network of the Philippines’ National Grid Corporation. Therma Visayas Inc., is an arm of Aboitiz Power Corp., of the Philippines.

The Commission, meanwhile, has stated in its verdict that the dedicated point-to-point transmission facility, dependent on related charges and put up it in line with system impact study obligations, must be run by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines. The regulator has further said that the power generating plant must be the lone user of the facility and the dedicated point-to-point transmission should incorporate the planned 230/138 kV Cebu substation

ERC stated, “A perusal of the evidence presented herein showed that the approval of TVI’s application for authority to develop, own and operate dedicated point-to-point limited transmission facilities to connect the 2x150 MW Therma Visayas coal plant to the transmission systems in accordance with the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001.”

At first, the Aboitiz subsidiary was planning for a power station in Cebu with a generation capacity of 300MW and then increasing its capability to 510MW. ERC has revealed that the project will render major benefits to the power customers through making provisions for quality, dependable and efficient electricity supply.

Therma Visayas has requested for the construction of the interconnection facilities to facilitate supplying the plant’s total 300MW output to the national grid. It is anticipated that the work on the venture will be initiated in the Q1, 2015, with strategy to accomplish the project within next two years.
