Pakistan : CCP to issue recommendations to promote competition in public procurement of power equipment
Publish Date : 17-Feb-2015
The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) is to issue its recommendations for promoting competition in public procurement of power equipment following a hearing which is scheduled for February 17. The CCP took notice of concerns pointed out by various stakeholders to include manufacturers and suppliers of electric power equipment.
These stakeholders complained regarding certain restrictive and discriminatory terms in the tenders issued by public organisations like the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and power distribution companies. Further, the CCP came up with a decision to conduct an open hearing under Section 29 of the Competition Act 2010.
The commission is mandated by the Act to take up enforcement, advocacy and research efforts to provide for free competition in all spheres of commercial and economic activity in a move to boost economic efficiency and to protect consumers from anti-competitive behaviour.
