India : BIDDING for INDIA's upcoming auctions fierce

The upcoming auctions of 2G spectrum bands of 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz and 3G spectrum band of 2,100 MHz to be hod on 4th March, 2015 has attracted bids from eight telecom firms. These eight telcos are Aircel, Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Vodafone India, Tata Teleservices, and Uninor.
The deadline to submit the bids is already over. The final list of bidders will be announced on 27th February.
Vodafone, Idea and RCom, whose license to hold airwaves in premium 900 MHz will end in 2015-16 in certain circles. The bidding would be fierce this year, as acquiring airwaves is key for their operations this time around. It may turn out to be the largest spectrum auction so far and fetch nearly Rs 80,000 crore for the government of India helping it bridge its financial deficit.
