Publish Date : 23-Feb-2015
According to a local government tender notice the city of Sorocaba in Brazil's Săo Paulo state has called for bids to create a 35km bus rapid transit (BRT) system in the city budgeted at 134mn reais (US$47mn).
The contract, which includes building, maintaining and operating the BRT along the city's north-south and east-west corridors for 20 years, is likely to benefit a number of 150,000-180,000 passengers.
Companies or consortiums can plan technical visits until March 17 and offers are due March 24. The group proposing the lowest bus fares will succeed.
Remuneration all through the 20-year public-private partnership should be above 2.1bn reais.
Studies for the project have been undertaken by the Consor-Ellenco and KPMG-Proficenter consortiums.
As per to a study performed by national development bank BNDES, the Săo Paulo metropolitan region should see the most urban mobility investments in the coming years. Sorocaba is situated 87km west of state capital Săo Paulo and has a population of about 640,000.
