Malaysia : TM and TT Dotcom to jointly install submarine cable

Publish Date : 07-Mar-2015

Telekom Malaysia Bhd and TT dotCom Sdn Bhd (TTdC) will be jointly installing a submarine cable connecting Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The project named as 'Sistem Kabel Rakyat 1Malaysia (SKR1M), was awarded by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission MCMC to TM through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement between the two parties.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between TM and TTdC, and now a SKR1M Consortium would be established for SKR1M development.

According to TM, “Upon the signing of the MoU and the formation of SKR1M Consortium, the parties shall proceed with the tender exercise to determine the preferred technology partner to supply, deliver and implement SKR1M.” During the MoU term, the parties would also develop the principles for the construction and maintenance agreement (C&MA), establishing the rules governing the implementation and management of SKR1M. The MoU is for a period of three months or it will expire upon execution of the C&MA, whichever is earlier.
