Railsponsible, a collaborative initiative focused on sustainable procurement to improve sustainability throughout the entire supply chain, has been launched by six companies in the railway industry, viz Alstom Transport, Bombardier Transportation, Deutsche Bahn, Knorr Bremse, Nederlandse Spoorwegen and SNCF. Main objective of 'Railsponsible' is for sharing best practices and processes, drive a common understanding throughout the industry, and use and share common tools, creating efficiencies.

The Railsponsible aims at a global railway industry where all suppliers have in place good ethical, social, environmental and business practices. It will be open to all railway operators and companies across the railway industry value chain, along with key industry associations that share its vision, mission and commitments.

The charter is to be signed by the six founding members for officially launching the Railsponsible and would invite other companies and suppliers in the rail industry to join them.

Railsponsible will kick off its first common supplier assessment campaigns in March 2015 using EcoVadis. Railsponsible is supported by BSR, along with the support from EcoVadis, bringing strong expertise in collaborative industry sustainability initiatives, along with sustainable procurement collaborative platforms.
