Oman : OMAN RAIL receives bids from 11 groups for Phase 1 civils contract

Oman Rail has received bids from 11 groups for the civil works contract for Phase I of its railway network, a 207km link from Sohar to Buraimi on the UAE border in the north of the sultanate, which represents the Sultanate's part of the GCC railway network.

The 11 groups include : Porr (Austria), Yuksel Insat (Turkey), Sarooj Construction (Oman) and Daewoo E&C (South Korea); Saipem (Italy), Rizzani De Eccher (Italy), Dogus Insaat (Turkey); Ircon International (Italy), Hani Archrodon (Greece/Oman), Tata Projects (India); Larsen & Toubro (India), FCC Construction (Spain), Khalid Bin Ahmed & Sons (Oman); China State Construction Engineering Co (China) and S&K E&C (Korea); Astaldi (Italy), ONEIC (Oman), Yapi Merkezi (Turkey), Corsan Corviam (Spain); Hyundai E&C (Korea), Hassan Juma Backer (Oman), Assignia (Spain), Maire Tecnimont (Italy); China Railway Group and Mapa Insaat ve Ticarat (Turkey); Salini Impregilo (Italy); China Railway Construction Corporation, International Contractors (Oman) Mohammed Al Kharafi (Kuwait), and Societa Italiana per Condotte d'Acqua (Italy), Federici Sterling (Italy), SWS Engineering (Italy) Itinera (Italy).

Oman Rail will initially review technical bids for the project, which were received on 18th January, from which it will prepare a shortlist of the most attractive offers, after which it will open financial bids from the shortlisted bidders.

After the evaluation exercise is completed, Oman Rail will invite a few bidders with the best technical and financial bids for final negotiations. The contract would be offered in Q3-2015 and construction will be launched in late 2015 or early 2016. Oman Rail said the first phase should be completed by the end of 2018.
