France : FRANCE may soon launch EUR250M tender for special operations forces vehicles
Publish Date : 10-Mar-2015
France is expected to soon release a tender valued at an estimated total EUR 250 million for 2 types of vehicles for its special operations forces. The procurement shows a need to rapidly equip the special forces, which have been widely involved in foreign missions and have worn out the Panhard Vehicule de Patrouille Speciale. A source said "The special forces can't wait."
The tender includes 2 orders, one for EUR 100 million and the other EUR 50 million. Although such a deal would be costly for a relatively small order, the winner of the bid could promote itself in the market as a company that supplies to the elite French special forces. Procurement chief Laurent Collet-Billon said the Defense Ministry will hold a tender to select a vehicle and develop it to fulfill special forces needs.
He said no off-the-shelf vehicle meets the stipulations, which requires 2 years of development. He added that the development will adapt the vehicle, which will then pass through a certification to show the weapons and radio will be suitable for use. The acquisition will be conducted by special forces command, the chief of the armed forces and the Direction Generale de l'Armement procurement office. French senator Jacques Gautier said : "I hope a solution can be found that meets the urgent needs of the operational forces and the realities of the procurement procedure."
