India : Union Road Transport and Highways ministry launches portal to help source cement for concrete roads
Publish Date : 12-Mar-2015
On Tuesday, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari launched a web portal, www.inampro.nic.in in accordance with the plan to construct cement concrete highways, instead of bitumen ones. This will facilitate cement procurement and delivery.
INAM-PRO, which stands for platform for infrastructure and materials providers, will be monitoring the supply of cement and hasten the procedure of orders by prospective users and agencies with the respective cement manufacturers.
Main objective behind launch of this portal is to facilitate contractors and cement buyers for central and state-funded roads, highways and bridge construction projects. Orders for cement will be placed online with the registered cement companies, which will be offering prices in the vicinity of project-execution locations.
Meanwhile, 36 participating cement manufacturers will quote rates from 103 factories all over India, along with the cement stock available, on the web portal. The procurer/road developer will be able to view the asking price and also the nearest factory price. With the cement costs lower than market prices, the quoted price of cement on the portal does not include taxes and transportation costs.
Vijay Chhibber, secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, said, “The portal provides a buyer-seller platform without any intermediary.” Focusing on supply-demand in the cement sector, this would help the factories in utilising their capacity to full potential. With the help of INAM-PRO, the ministry expects to increase transparency in the process and, thus, counter inflationary pricing through cartelisation by cement companies.
