Uzbekistan Railways has announced the signing of an agreement with the German DB International GmbH (Deutsche Bahn AG branch) for obtaining consulting services.

The $388.23 million contract is a part of the project for the electrification of the Karshi-Termez railway in southern Uzbekistan. It includes the electrification of a 325 kilometer railway section, the modernization of related telecommunications technology.

The contract also consists of the upgrade of equipment and the repair of electrical locomotives along with the procurement of new machinery and equipment.

Uzbekistan Railways and a $220.6 million loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide fund for this effort.
