Germany : E-PROCUREMENT technology and services giant looks to expand size

Publish Date : 08-Apr-2015

Although it is already a giant in e-procurement technology and services, SAP AG, is looking to further expand its size.

The company that provides software to run business operations and e-commerce sites as well as procurement systems has taken over several businesses in recent years, which includes Concur Technologies Inc., a supplier of software to manage the procurement of business travel services.

Concur was acquired in December 2014 after the previous acquisitions of Ariba Inc., which runs the Ariba Network, where over 1.7 million businesses exchange purchase orders and invoices across 190 countries; and Fieldglass, a provider of e-procurement services for buying professional contract staffing.

SAP has now created the SAP Business Network division, with those three units under its wing, to provide cloud-based corporate procurement services.

The SAP Business Network division is led by the CEO of Concur, Steve Singh.

SAP expects to cross-sell its multiple forms of procurement services to its customer base, which includes businesses using its enterprise resource planning software to manage operations such as inventory, accounting and human resources; and those who use the company's hybris Software e-commerce technology.

SAP CEO Bill McDermott said, "We are redefining how businesses conduct commerce across goods and services, contingent workforces, travel and entertainment."

He added that the company is also using its cloud-based HANA data management technology to "innovate new business models" in the Business Network.
