United States : FAA postpones plans to seek new provider of cybersecurity services
Publish Date : 08-Apr-2015
According to contracting documents, while it is responding to a cyber attack, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has delayed plans of seeking a new provider of cybersecurity services.
The agency is extending SRA International's deal to support the FAA's Security Operations Center through February 2016.
SRA secured a $67 million deal in 2008 to operate the center, which guards the general critical information systems at the Department of Transportation from infiltration and disruption.
SRA's cyber work can continue through option periods through July 2015, under its current deal.
With a a new bridge deal, work can continue through February 2016.
As it seeks to re-compete the contract to run cyber activities, the FAA "requires additional planning time to determine the impact [of the recent cyber-attack] to the competitive procurement's requirements."
In an April 2 notice on the FedBizOpps website, the agency said it will defer the new procurement.
FAA apparently had major plans for its Security Operations Center. The new procurement was aimed at moving "the [Security Operations Center] from its current role of an incident response team to that of a leader in the cyber security world and become a shared service provider," in keeping with a line of business program from the Office of Management and Budget.
