59 irrigation projects underway in Pangasinan
Publish Date : 30-Apr-2015
Some 59 projects under the National Irrigation Administration–Project Irrigation Management Office (NIA-PIMO) are underway for Pangasinan to provide ample water supply and facilities to farmers.
Senior Engineer Agapito Yamat, Jr. said the projects are for calendar year 2015 with an over-all fund allocation of P450 million.
The projects are distributed in each of the six districts namely: 12 projects with an allocation of P58 million (District 1); eight projects worth P109 million (District 2); 10 projects worth P77 million (District 3); nine projects worth P92 million (District 4); five projects worth P55 million (Distirct 5) and 15 projects worth P87 million (District 6).
Yamat urged interested bidders to visit the NIA office in Urdaneta City as 30 percent of the projects are still up for bid.
Meanwhile, Engr. Warlito Presto, also of PIMO, said irrigation has been cut off in Districts 3, 4, 5 and 6 since April 15 because most of the crops in the irrigable lands have already been harvested.
“Sa ngayon wala tayong pinapatubigan dahil naani na ang mga tanim at nag- announce kami na wala nang third cropping,” Presto said during the KBP Forum held at the Philippine Information Agency office.
He clarified that production may not be affected by the irrigation cut-off in the areas comprising 18,697 hectares as harvest season is over.
Presto said irrigation in Districts 1, 2 and 3 are still on-going as the areas are watered by the communal river system and not the big systems operated by NIA.
