Publish Date : 07-May-2015

According to the Western Australian state government, three consortia have been shortlisted to bid for the design-build contract for Perth's A$ 2.2bn ($US 2bn) Forrestfield-Airport Link.

The three consortia includes : JHL joint venture (John Holland and Leighton Contractors); SI-NRW joint venture (Salini Impregilo and NRW); and Forrestfield Connect (Acciona Infrastructure, BAM International and Ferrovial Agroman).

Now, the Western Australia Public Transport Authority (PTA) is to issue a formal request for proposals (RFP) to the three shortlisted bidders, which will develop fully-costed proposals for the project.

Recently, the legislation authorising construction of the 8.5km extension to the TransPerth suburban network was introduced to the state parliament.

As per design, the new line will branch off the existing Midland Line, just east of Bayswater Station along with new stations at Airport West, Consolidated Airport, and Forrestfield. Major journey will be underground in an 8km twin-bore tunnel which will carry the line beneath the Swan River and the airport.

Awarding of the contract to the successful bidder is expected in mid-2016 with construction starting in late 2016. The line would be operational in 2020.
