5 consortia bidding for the civil works contract for OMAN's first phase of railway network
Publish Date : 08-May-2015
As per reports, five consortia bidding for the civil works contract for the first phase of railway network in Oman have cleared the technical evaluation round carried out by Oman Rail for the project, with the railway subsequently meeting each of the bidding parties last week to discuss pricing.
The network's first phase covers the 207km link from Sohar to Buraimi on the UAE border in the north of the sultanate. Construction is expected to begin in late 2015 or early 2016, with completion scheduled by the end of 2018.
The five consortia includes: Larsen & Toubro, India, FCC Construction, Spain, and local partner Khalid Bin Ahmed & Sons; Salini Impregilo, Italy; China State Construction Engineering Coorporation, and SK Engineering & Construction, Korea; Porr Bau, Austria, Yuksel Insaat, Turkey, Daewoo, Korea, and local partner Sarooj Construction Company; and Saipem, Rizzano de Eccher, Italy, and Dogus Insaat, Turkey.
With the best technical as well as financial offers, the bidders would likely be invited to enter into final negotiations for the contract to be awarded in the third quarter of 2015.
According to Oman Rail, 10% of the value of all contracts awarded for its railway project must go to domestic firms under an in-country value initiative (ICV).
By year-end, Oman Rail plans to select an international partner for operations. On initial basis this partner will support in developing demand for using the network and will ultimately be responsible for freight operations and network management.
