Publish Date : 08-May-2015
Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) has announced approval of the draft of National Policy on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency for the country.
Following the weekly meeting of the FEC on Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, stated that the country needs a policy for renewable energy as it has ample hydro, solar, wind and other sources of energy. The policy will help in promotion of better access to electricity by Nigerians as well as would improve energy mix and energy security.
He said, the policy will promote energy efficiency, promote clean environment along with generating job opportunities for the nation’s youths.
He said, “The overall objective of the policy is to increase access using renewable energy mix, create new business opportunities and new jobs, support global efforts towards green economies and addressing climate change problems. In addition, the policy will also promote and encourage efficient use of energy and energy conservation in Nigeria.”
