PDB invites global bids to build new power plant in KHULNA
Publish Date : 09-May-2015
The Bangladeshi government-owned Power Development Board (PDB) will build a large dual fuel (gas and furnace oil) combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 200-300MW in Khulna through bidder's funding.
The Board under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, has already invited global bids for the project, with deadline to submit the tender being July 2.
After the contract is offered to the winning bidder, the project would be built in 900 days, including a simple cycle completion time of 540 days.
PDB Chairman Md Shahinul Islam Khan said, "Implementing through bidder's financing means the contractor will arrange international financing for the project."
A PDB official said, "Setting up a new plant was not in the government’s plan but two plants in Khulna’s Goalpara, which were once known as the power house of the district, turned unusable allegedly because of negligence and lack of monitoring. This has compelled the government to take the new project."
