Publish Date : 11-May-2015

During next year, the ports of Chimbote in the Ancash region, Salaverry in Chiclayo and Ilo in Moquegua will be put out to concession, said Peru's Minister of Transport & Communications, Jose Gallardo.

Main objective is to benefit the country's agribulk exporting regions.

The Transport and Communications Commission at Congress were informed by him that, “(Concessions) will be awarded in 2016 with investment of $478.2m.”

Beginning of the concession process is expected during the second half of the current year when a call for expressions of interest will be made.

Upon completion of the transfer of management of these three ports to the private sector, the number of Peruvian ports no longer operated by the state would increase to eight.

Later, two other ports of Pucallpa and Iquitos would also be offered to the market, requiring an investment of around $76.5m.
